This course is designed to accelerate students’ learning and achievement in the Advanced Module A, Narratives That Shape Our World, as well as in their English learning more globally. In this course, we will study key aspects of narrative, and the unique ways in which narratives construct meaning, beginning with Aristotle’s far-reaching analyses in his Poetics. Concentrating on a number of texts, including a work of Gothic fiction, we will further examine how context (both personal, and historical) shapes the values and significance of narrative texts. Lastly, we will also deal with how students can succeed in multi-modal assessments; a form of assessment required of students this year, and likely this term.
